Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 4:58PM CDT by NWS Shreveport LA At 458 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 6 miles south of Jacksonville, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Jacksonville, Rusk, Alto, Ponta, Maydelle, Morrill, Sacul, New Salem, Forest, Gallatin, Reklaw and Linwood. Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Southern Cherokee County in northeastern Texas... * Until 615 PM CDT. * At 513 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located just west of Rusk, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Rusk, Alto, Wells, Morrill, Forest, Sacul, Douglass, Maydelle and Linwood. Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Wind damage with this storm will occur before any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. Seek shelter immediately inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding.
