Special Weather Statement issued May 8 at 7:33PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC At 732 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Ammon to near Fair Bluff to 6 miles northwest of Lake City. Movement was southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Conway, Marion, Lake City, Whiteville, Mullins, Elizabethtown, Horry, Rowan, Tabor City, Loris, Chadbourn, Bladenboro, Bethel, Johnsonville, Lake Waccamaw, Pamplico, Fair Bluff, Hemingway, Sandyfield, and Hickory Grove. This includes SC Highway 22 between mile markers 1 and 18. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT for southeastern North Carolina...and northeastern South Carolina.
