At 1231 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located 13 nm west of South Amboy, moving east at 20 knots. The strong thunderstorm will be near... Raritan Bay around 105 PM EDT. Keansburg around 110 PM EDT. Sandy Hook and Sandy Hook Bay around 125 PM EDT. Lower New York Harbor around 135 PM EDT. Rockaway Inlet around 150 PM EDT. Barnum Island and Island Park around 220 PM EDT. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Flatbush, Coney Island, Todt Hill, Crown Heights, The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Huguenot, Canarsie, Bay Ridge, Port Richmond, Tottenville, Tompkinsville, Bensonhurst, Oakwood, Park Slope, Sheepshead Bay, Annadale, New Dorp, Grasmere, Heartland Village and Greenridge. This will cause urban and small stream flooding once it moves into the area. - Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, locally 3" possible, over portions of the area through 4pm.
