Special Weather Statement issued July 1 at 4:44PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM At 444 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of strong thunderstorms extending from near Broadview to 9 miles northeast of Elida, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Clovis, Portales, Melrose, Elida, Dora, Grady, Ranchvale, Saint Vrain, Cannon Air Force Base and Oasis State Park. This includes Highway 60 between Mile Markers 354 and 395. Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Blowing dust associated with strong thunderstorm winds can reduce visibility below one quarter mile at times.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 1 at 5:19PM MDT until July 1 at 5:45PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM At 519 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Bellview, or 31 miles north of Clovis, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Bellview. Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
