Flash Flood Warning issued June 18 at 9:55PM CDT until June 19 at 12:15AM CDT by NWS Duluth MN At 955 PM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Rapid rises, high flows and fast moving water are expected on North Shore rivers and streams. Flooding or complete washouts of forest roads and gravel roads are likely. SOURCE...Radar and Department of Transportation. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Grand Marais, Gunflint Lake, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Grand Portage, Clear Lake, Lutsen, Tofte, Beaver Bay, Fairbanks, Wolf Lake, George Manitou State Park, Dumbbell Lake, Sugar Loaf Cove, Little Marais, Taconite Harbor, Temperance River State Park, Finland, Isabella, Tettegouche State Park and Illgen City. Flooding and debris have been reported on Minnesota Highway 61 between Silver Bay and Lutsen. North Shore rivers are rapidly rising, and will continue to do so tonight into Wednesday. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.
