Heat Advisory issued July 10 at 11:33AM AKDT until July 11 at 11:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK * WHAT...Hot temperatures as high as 85 degrees expected. * WHERE...Yukon Flats. * WHEN...Until 11 PM AKDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Individuals not accustomed to these unusually hot temperatures for this region may experience heat related illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The warmest temperatures will be away from the Yukon River. Drink plenty of fluids and check up on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when working in the sun. Wear sunscreen and lightweight, loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Close curtains during the daytime to reduce sun insolation into the home and open windows at night to allow the home to cool off. Utilize fans or community buildings with air conditioning.

Red Flag Warning issued July 10 at 8:31AM AKDT until July 11 at 11:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Red Flag Warning for lightning, which is in effect from noon to 11 PM AKDT Saturday. * AFFECTED AREA...Yukon Flats. * TIMING...From noon to 11 PM AKDT Saturday. * THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE INDEX...Scattered. * WINDS...South 5 to 10 mph. Outflow winds look particularly strong, with gusty/erratic winds of 40 to 60 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 25 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Highs in the mid to upper 80s. Lows in the lower 50s. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will come with prolific lightning and outflow boundaries. Any lightning can cause new ignitions since the fuels are dry and burnable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Conditions look favorable for much stronger thunderstorms than we have seen this week, likely bordering on "Severe" criteria. A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous fires. It is directed toward fire agencies, and through them, to the public. Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the field of this Red Flag Warning.
