Heat Advisory issued July 2 at 11:09AM CDT until July 4 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Huntsville AL * WHAT...For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115. For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 109 expected. * WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. * WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 7 PM CDT this evening. For the Heat Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM CDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued July 2 at 6:24PM CDT by NWS Huntsville AL At 624 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Madison. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Northwestern Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Redstone Arsenal, Marshall Space Flight Center, Harvest, French Mill, and Capshaw. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM CDT for north central Alabama.

East central Limestone County in north central Alabama... * Until 745 PM CDT. * At 655 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Madison, and is nearly stationary. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Western Huntsville, Madison, Redstone Arsenal, Marshall Space Flight Center, University Of Alabama In Huntsville, Harvest, French Mill, and Capshaw. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Damaging wind and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
